The tornado that tore through Waywayseecappo First Nation Monday has been given an EF2 rating by a team from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The team was out assessing the damage on the First Nation Wednesday morning.

An EF2 rating is given when winds reach between 180 to 220 kilometres per hour.

People are still picking up the pieces from the tornado that left a trail of destruction in its path.

ECCC confirmed a tornado touched down in the community at around 5:20 p.m. on Monday.

Tuesday, community leaders said no one was hurt but between 60 and 70 people have been displaced.

The next step will be fixing the damaged homes - for now the roofs are covered with tarps to keep the rain out. (File Image)
