A sea of white flooded downtown Winnipeg this week for the Jets' first round playoff series.

Fans went all out with creative outfits, dinners and tickets to the game.

In some cases, getting on board with the whiteout came with a hefty price tag.

Colin Ward said he spent $100 on his outfit alone.

“Then my tickets were around $180 so maybe around $300 (total),” said Ward.

Other fans also shelled out hundreds of dollars.

Dean Mary said he bought a jersey. His wife bought a white shirt and they bought their child a white shirt.

Mary said in total, he coughed up about $300 to take in the festivities and cheer on the team.

"It really shows how much we back our team and how much we love the Jets," he said.

Even though the Jets were losers of four straight playoff games, businesses feel like winners.

East India Company owner and Downtown Biz chair Sachit Mehra said the playoffs paid off in a big way.

"I know in my own small business that we had a bump of at least 20-30 per cent every night of the playoff games alone, so that's very significant,” said Mehra.

Boston Pizza General Manager Courtney Isfeld said the restaurant and lounge were packed during games three and four - busier than during a regular Jets game.

"The atmosphere was a little bit different,” said Isfeld. “(Customers) were drinking a lot more. They were ready to spend money. They were going out for those two days only."

With the party over, fans are now left to clean up the bills.

Credit counsellor Sandra Fry advises people scrambling to pay off playoff debt to cut back spending in other areas.

"It comes right back to where's it going,” said Fry. “Is there anything we can do to better allocate the dollars that we're spending?"

A return to reality after a short but memorable journey.

"I'm upset but it was a good week,” said fan Jeremy Rodahl.

A week which some fans say was worth every penny.
