A 69-year-old man died following a head-on crash on Highway 10 and Road 48, south of Brandon, on Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP and emergency crews responded around 1 p.m. July 29.

A car had been heading northbound on Highway 10 when it hit an SUV going southbound, said RCMP.

An early investigation showed the car had drifted across the centre line, said police.

The driver of the car, a 69-year-old man from Carberry, was sent to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV, an 87-year-old woman from Hartney, also went to hospital and is listed in stable condition.

RCMP said alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Both drivers appeared to be wearing seatbelts.

Officers closed the highway while they investigated.

Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the province said the highway had re-opened.
