A $1,500 grant from Local Investment Toward Employment is giving at-risk youth a chance to develop job skills in the community and preparing them for adulthood.

The money will go to Marymound’s Student Work Experience Education Program for a hotdog cart called Grillin’ 4 Good.

“The hot dog cart is a real job in every respect. The difference is that support is available to youth managing difficult life situations and change – circumstances that can get in the way of getting or keeping a job,” said Tyler Pearce, executive director of LITE, in a release on Monday.

Since 1994, LITE has been aiming to reduce poverty by funding innovative job creation projects.

This is the first time LITE has granted money to Marymound, the release said.

“Grillin’ 4 Good is the kind of project that LITE donors are looking to support – projects that make impact now and in the future,” said Pearce.
