A Winnipeg woodcarver is searching for answers after his 400 pound sculpture was stolen from his front yard.
Gary Foidart decided to showcase his work for the first time ever in front of his North End home this month, but it only lasted three weeks before the eagle carving disappeared.
"You can't leave anything out in Winnipeg, and it's a sad statement on how our society's going," said Foidart.
The piece is worth around $1,500.
Foidart says he had spent more than 50 hours cutting and crafting the sculpture to perfection.
"Even knowing that it might happen, when it does happen, it's still a kick in the gut."
Foidart went away for a trip last weekend, and when he returned, the carving was gone. It was attached to a concrete pad on his front lawn, and Foidart says it would have taken a lot of man power to take the piece.
"You can see the scrape marks where they dragged it across. They couldn't lift it. They dragged it across the lawn to a waiting vehicle."
Foidart says Winnipeg police told him there isn’t much that can be done to try and track down the five-foot sculpture.
Neighbours living on Kildarroch Street say stolen property crimes are becoming much more popular in the area.
"We don't really have a lot of theft around here, but things are changing, and it really aggravates me that this guy has to go through that," said Foidart’s neighbor, Anita Hyndman.
Foidart says he won’t stop showcasing his art, but is considering moving elsewhere to do it.
"I plan on getting out of Winnipeg to tell you the truth, the petty crime is getting out of hand. Yeah, I'll showcase my work out of town, my talents out of town."
