A St. Adolphe man was hosting a family dinner Wednesday night when lightning struck his house, causing his roof to cave in.

Terry Belanger said it happened during the severe storm that rolled through the province.

When the lightning struck, his attic exploded and collapsed into the main floor of his home.

“That attic must’ve been so hot that the lightning just expanded that air and blew out everything,” he said.

Belanger and his neighbours called 911 and used garden hoses to douse the flames while they waited for fire fighters to arrive.

Belanger said he is grateful no one was seriously hurt.

Environment Canada said there were at least 4,000 lightning strikes during Wednesday’s storm.
