Judy Wasylycia-Leis says she will expand a key crime prevention plan while increasing the amount of police working downtown.

The mayoral candidate says she will expand the Block by Block pilot program initiated in the William Whyte neighbourhood last year.

Wasylycia-Leis said she would like to see it expanded to the entire city. It brings several groups together offering services to families in need.

She wants to double police foot patrols downtown and add four new crime analysts at a cost of $450,000 a year.

The candidate referenced the death of 15-year-old-Tina Fontaine during her announcement.

Wasylycia-Leis’ crime reduction strategy also included a pledge to work with social agencies to better find runaways and bring them home safe.
