Vehicle owners who are the victim of vandals are getting a break on their insurance claims.
Manitoba Public Insurance said deductibles of $100 and $200 will be waived when a vehicle is damaged due to criminal vandalism.
MPI says this will impact 700,000 drivers.
The new initiative takes effect immediately.
"This policy change ─ which will automatically benefit approximately 75 per cent of all Manitoba Public Insurance customers who currently have the optional $100 and $200 deductible packages ─ will result in a minimal premium adjustment of $3 to $5 per year, which is expected to apply to policy renewals and reassessments effective March 1, 2016 or later," said MPI in a release.
MPI said the average cost of a vandalism claim approximately $1,300.
