Winnipeg police received 24 reports of car break-ins, the majority with smashed windows, around the Crescentwood area Wednesday in the area between Academy, Garwood, Stafford and Wilton.

Some thefts were reported of small change and electronics, while other vehicles were broken into but no thefts reported. Many residents hit said they keep their cars empty.

One suspect description at this point is a male in dark clothes, but police aren't ruling out that there could be several people working together.

Officers said two extensive searches were carried out by canine units but no suspect was located.

“We just need to catch this guy. This has been going on for quite some time,” said Pauline Lauder, who had a window smashed out.

At this point, there's nothing to link this to other recent car break-ins in the area.

Police encouraged anyone with information to come forward, saying even the smallest detail could help them catch whoever is responsible.

If someone is convicted in a vehicle break-in, MPI can sue the vandal for damages and pay back a claimant's deductible.

Anyone with information in the cases can contact investigators at 204-986-2877 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
