Based on reports from Environment Canada, the chief provincial public health officer put out a smoke advisory on Aug. 28 for parts of Manitoba.

Due to a number of wildfires that are burning in the northwest United States, conditions are favourable for smoke and haze exposure over the next few days.

Most of the province is expected to see some level of haze over the weekend, but the most concentrated areas for smoke will be along the Manitoba – Saskatchewan border. Portions of the north are also expected to see high concentrations of smoke.

Exposure to smoke can cause sore eyes, tears, coughing and a runny nose. Health officials suggest people limit both outdoor activity and strenuous physical activity.

They also suggest people should turn off furnaces and air conditioning units that may draw smoke indoors.
