Drivers could be slowing down around Winnipeg schools.

Photo enforcement revenue skyrocketed when the city lowered the speed to 30 kilometres per hour in elementary school zones.

New numbers show that trend could be on the decline.

In December 2014, up to 5,177 photo radar tickets for speeding in school zones were issued.

That number dropped to 2,608 in December 2015.

Scott Gillingham with the Winnipeg police says he's hopeful the data means drivers are getting the message and slowing down.

What's not known is how much enforcement was done during those months and if that could have impacted the stats.
