Emergency crews had to call in the police helicopter Air1 to rescue a woman in the fast-flowing Assiniboine River on Friday.

The woman was spotted in the water around 3:30 a.m. near Wellington Crescent and CPR Lavierre. The fast current carried the woman eastward down river and the cold water, flood conditions and poor visibility made it hard for rescuers to get to her.

The police helicopter was called in and used a Forward Looking Infrared camera and spotlight to help rescuers find her.

Emergency crews were able to pull the woman out of the water near Palmerston Avenue without serious risk to the workers.
