Thompson RCMP said they are looking for a suspect after the possible attempted child abduction of two young girls in Thompson Friday night.

RCMP said two girls aged seven and eight were on a swing set around 10 p.m. at Rotary Park on Deerwood Drive when a masked suspect got out of a vehicle and approached them.

RCMP said the suspect attempted to pull the girls off the swings but was unsuccessful when a woman driving by witnessed what was going on and stopped to help.

The masked suspect left the area in what is believed to be a blue Dodge Ram, RCMP said.

RCMP said the woman who witnessed the possible abduction made sure the two girls got to their bikes and made it home safe, but she did not stay around to speak to police.

RCMP said the two girls were not harmed.

"This is a very concerning incident and the Thompson RCMP are taking every measure to track down the suspect" said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP. "We need anyone who may have seen something or may have information to contact us immediately. We also ask that parents in the Thompson area to be vigilant and to take this opportunity to speak to their children about what to do if approached by a stranger. "

RCMP said they are trying to find the woman and would like to speak with her and anyone else who may have been a witness.

Anyone with information or any resident in the area of Rotary Park that may have video surveillance are asked to contact Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909.
