Winnipeg police said a semi driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash at Dugald Road and Lagimodiere Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded around 2:20 p.m. on Dec. 16.

CTV News was told Wednesday the semi driver had to slam on his brakes and the load he was hauling came crashing through the truck's cab.

On Thursday, police released more details.

"Early investigation has revealed that multiple vehicles had been involved in a collision ahead of the semi. When the driver stopped to avoid the involved vehicles, the load of scrap railway track being carried on the trailer penetrated the cab of the truck, pinning the driver," said police in a press release.

Anyone with information regarding the crash who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
