Winnipeg police and cadets blocked traffic on Grant Avenue by Shaftesbury Boulevard to investigate a report of a suspicious package Monday night.

CTV News received reports the Canadian Mennonite University was placed under lockdown around 9:00 p.m.

A student said he was in the library studying when he was told to stay away from the windows.

He said police went inside the library and prevented anyone from leaving.

Police blocked off the intersection of Grant Avenue and Shaftesbury Boulevard.

The lockdown at CMU was lifted just before 11:00 p.m. and Grant Avenue was reopened to traffic.

On Tuesday police confirmed the package was unfounded.
