Drivers heading out on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Winnipeg can legally drive a little faster as of June 2.

The province has changed the speed limit to 110 km/h on most twinned sections of Trans-Canada Highway west of Winnipeg.

Areas around Virden, Brandon, Carberry, Portage la Prairie, Elie and Headingley are excluded from the increased speed limit because of road geometry and traffic signal locations in these areas, said the province.

The speed limit from Virden to the Saskatchewan border was increased to 110 km/h back in 2009.
