A trial is underway for the man accused in the killing of Jenilee Ballantyne.

It continued Thursday with the court hearing from multiple Crown witnesses.

Michael Daniel Bourget, 30, faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Ballantyne.

It's alleged the 22-year-old victim was at Bourget's home on January 24, 2013.

At some point, Ballantyne was stabbed in the head and neck.

Bourget’s roommate found her body in the home; he went to his parent’s house where a 911 call was made.

In the call, a dispatcher asked the roommate’s father what the emergency was.

He told the dispatcher, “I believe there’s been a stabbing.”

His son could be heard in the background saying, “I didn’t see a weapon, just a lot of blood.”

The son said he didn’t know the girl’s name.

That 911 call led police to Bourget’s home, and eventually to Pear Tree Bay where Ballantyne’s body was found in the trunk of a parked car.

Bourget turned himself into police that day.

A statement he gave to police will be a key piece of evidence in the trial.

Bourget's fate will be determined by a judge in the no-jury trial.

It’s scheduled to last at least two weeks.
