People from all different walks of life got a chance to walk the path of someone less fortunate on Saturday.

“This event is designed to give participants a snapshot of what it's like to live in poverty, particularly with some of the issues individuals and families face to make ends meet,” the West Broadway Community Ministry wesite said.

Tessa Blaikie Whitecloud from 1JustCity said the fundraiser offers walking tours including self-guided and guided walks offering a glimpse into the day-to-day experiences of those living in poverty.

“When you come to Walk A Mile in My Shoes, you have the option of tours. One is about housing, one is about health,” she said.

The event highlights three places in the West Broadway beighbourhood, which at one point, was among the most unsafe neighbourhoods in Canada, said Blaikie Whitecloud.

“It’s about being able to transform a community and see the social movements and the work that neighbourhood residents have done to make this a beautiful place to live again and such a diverse place to live.”

West Broadway Community Services is always taking donations including towels and toilettries, laundry soaps and food for emergency food pantries. To find out where and how to donate, head to the organization's website.

This is the second year the unique walk has been held.
