The City of Winnipeg estimates it will be $29 million over budget for snow clearing this year. Jim Berezowsky from the city said most of that cost came from snow plowing between January and March earlier this year.

Berezowsky said there has been one snow plow operation this season, but most workers are concentrating on salting and sanding streets. He said those services fall under the snow-clearing budget and are comparable in cost to plowing snow.

Berezowsky said that constant freezing and thawing conditions have made potholes in the city worse. He said crews are out making repairs while the warm temperatures last.

Drivers in St. James told CTV the potholes are damaging cars. One driver wished the city would make repairs more quickly, but said the city is doing a good job overall keeping streets clear.
