A recent report from Statistics Canada says Manitobans pay more than most Canadians to fly within the country.

The average domestic fare from the first quarter of 2015 is $183.50, but in Winnipeg it’s $193.00.

Winnipeg is third on the list, beat only by Toronto ($215.10) and Vancouver ($201.20).

The national average is up 2.5 per cent from the same quarter last year.

Average air fares are calculated for each “flight stage,” which is when a passenger boards at one airport and gets off at a different one.

The fares in the report do not include GST, other taxes, or user fees like airport improvement fees and fuel surcharges.

At the James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, the airport improvement fee is $25.00, which is collected to use to re-invest into airport infrastructure.
