The Winnipeg Jets brought back forward Alexander Burmistrov but couldn’t get a deal done with Michael Frolik on the opening day of NHL free agency.

The Jets also signed two of their own unrestricted free agents, forward Matt Halischuk and defenceman Adam Pardy.

Burmistrov, 23, has spent the past two seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League with Kazan Ak-Bars after leaving the Jets following the 2012/2013 season.

He was the 8th overall pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Winnipeg Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff described Burmistrov as a young player who brings experience to the team.

"He's coming in here not as a rookie,” said Cheveldayoff. “He's coming in here as an established professional hockey player that has a very, very good pedigree and there's room for us to continue to grow with him.”

The Jets and Burmistrov agreed on a two-year deal. The team did not release the value of his contract.

Frolik, 27, heads to Calgary on a five-year deal worth an average of $4.3 million per year.

During a phone interview with TSN he said he’s excited to be joining the Flames.

“What they did last year really impressed me. They are a great group of young guys,” said Frolik.

He thanked the Jets organization for giving him a place to play the past two seasons.

“They were great to me, they are a great organization. That’s kind of the business, what happened. I think Calgary now with Dougie Hamilton signing there, they’re getting the pieces and I think we could have a good chance there, too,” said Frolik.

Cheveldayoff wouldn’t go into details but said he felt the Jets final offer to Frolik was “very, very good in our mind.”

“We felt it was an offer that was very competitive in respect to what he took,” said Cheveldayoff.

“At the end of the day players have the choice to do what they choose to do and we wish him all the best. He was a good player for the Jets.”

Pardy stays with the Jets on a one-year, $1 million dollar deal.

The 31-year-old blueliner appeared in 55 games for the Jets including 2 playoff games.

Pardy even played as a forward at times last season and said he’s happy to be coming back to Winnipeg.

“I think moving forward it’s all about winning games and this is the place where I really wanted to be,” said Pardy from St. John’s, Nfld. “I fit in well with the group and the guys, we have a great group so moving forward this is the place where I wanted to play.”

The Jets also brought back forward Matt Halischuk,27, on a one-year, two-way contract worth $750, 000.

Before free agency began, the club announced details of its 2015 Development Camp.

The team’s top prospects including 2015 first round draft picks Kyle Connor and Jack Roslovic along with Nik Ehlers, Josh Morrissey, Nic Petan and Eric Comrie will be among those in attendance.

The camp runs from Friday July 3rd to Tuesday July 7th at MTS Iceplex and all practices are open to the public.
