A Winnipeg based Muslim group is reaching out to a beleaguered Northern Ontario First Nation.

The Zubaidah-Tallab Foundation is in the midst of making its biggest shipment of donated food ever. The Foundation is donating close to 4 thousand pounds of food to the Attawapiskat First Nation.

The foundation chose Attawapiskat after community leaders declared a state of emergency this past year.

The shipment of donated food includes carrots, potatoes and fresh meat along with dried and canned foods.

According to the foundation, all of the donations come from the Muslim community.

“It is part of being a Muslim, and they come and donate money or supplies, or part of their annual sacrificial meat so we can do this" said foundation spokesperson Hussain Guisti.

The group will deliver the food to Timmins Ontario. The shipment will then be flown to Attiwapiskat.

This is the 5th year the Zubaidah-Tallab Foundation has donated food to a place in need.
