A new app is set to help Winnipeggers navigate the city's Know your Zone program with the touch of a button.

Red River College grads Jeffrey Fulton, Rob Ring and Mackenzie Plowman make up part of Tilted Compass, the local company behind a free app called Snow your Zone.

Their app lets people search parking zones by address, street corner or business name. App users can then get notifications about upcoming bans in a specific zone.

"It's an app for Winnipeggers to be able to see when there's a snow parking ban and help them move their car, help them to avoid parking tickets," said Fulton.

Snow your Zone began as a college project for Rob Ring. About a year later, he asked his fellow developers to hop on board and turn the app into something all Winnipeggers can use.

Fulton said the city’s current online system is a little hard to use, and confusing.

He said Snow your Zone answers one question: can someone park their car at this specific location for the next 24 hours?

“Our app is using data that we get from the City of Winnipeg," said Fulton. "(It shows), on a map, your current location and what zone you’re in, and whether there’s a ban affecting that zone right now or in the next 24 hours.”

The app didn’t cost the group much dollar-wise, only about two months of part-time work, and is available for free download on Apple and Android products.

"Winnipeggers should never ever get a snow ban related ticket ever again," said Fulton.

The City of Winnipeg said it's still a few weeks away from finishing its own Know Your Zone app, similar to Snow your Zone.
