Murder and arson charges have been laid in the death of a man found in an apartment on Hargrave Street in downtown Winnipeg that was the site of a fire on July 26.

Officers identified the man killed as Arthur Haussermann, 53.

Fire officials said they responded to a call of a stove fire at the Holiday Towers apartment building on Hargrave Street just after 5:30 a.m. on July 26.

The victim was found with upper body injuries and sent to hospital in critical condition, said police. He later died from injuries.

Damage to the apartment was estimated at $10,000, said fire officials.

On July 30, police announced Clarissa Dawn Ponace, 29, of Winnipeg faces charges for second-degree murder, arson-endangering life and failing to comply with probation conditions.
