The City of Winnipeg and Winnipeg Transit want a transportation consultant to study linking east Winnipeg and downtown.

The city wants to examine the possibility of Bus Rapid Transit stopping at Union Station.

Winnipeg Transit planner David Patman said making Union Station a hub for transit is an idea that's been floated for years, and now is the time to take a closer look.

Transit said buses could use land from two unused tracks at the station.

Another bold idea, is to study the possibility of eventually converting the BRT, into a light rail system.

The city and transit also wants a consultant to study future ridership, land development, and traffic, linking the neighborhoods.
