The family of a teenage girl shot early Saturday morning has rallied to support her.

Around 12:30 a.m. October 24, Calli Vanderaa was in a car outside Mac’s Convenience Store on Autumnwood Drive in Windsor Park.

Someone fired a gun at the vehicle and hit her chest. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition and required multiple surgeries. She was upgraded to stable condition.

A police investigation revealed the firearm was stolen from an off-duty RCMP officer’s vehicle.

Two men were arrested and charged.

Matthew Wilfred McKay, 22, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and weapons offences.

Matthew Andrew Miles, 25, faces charges for weapons offences and theft.

“All the family wants is for Calli to make a full recovery and for there to be some accountability for how the firearm got into the wrong hands,” a close family friend told CTV News.

A family spokesperson told CTV News Wednesday Calli will remain in hospital indefinitely and will be monitored closely. She is unable to eat solid foods.

Her aunts started a gofundme page for Corey and Calli Vanderaa to help the girl and her single father, who has had to take time off work to be with his daughter and has no medical benefits.

The page has raised more than $2,000.
