Thousands of fans came out to see the host of the television show Dog Whisperer as he visited Winnipeg.

Cesar Millan was at the MTS Centre Sunday night to share his advice to pet owners about how to train their animals. About 7,000 people attended the event.

On Monday morning, he also made an appearance at a Pet Valu store on Reenders Drive and a large crowd greeted him there with hundreds showing up.

"He's got powers and he's awesome," said Chelsea Swift, a fan of Millan's. Some people waited for hours to see him at the pet store, including a group that lined up before midnight on Sunday to see Millan at the pet story Monday morning.

Millan said he was surprised and thankful for the outpouring of support from Winnipeggers.

"I'm so happy to be here with you," Millan told fans.

Millan also spoke out on a couple of issues, condemning the use of puppy mills and also voicing opposition to the city's ban on pit bulls.

"It's not the breed. It's the human behind the dog. We just need to learn to control power. They're all dogs," he said.

He also credited a petition with getting him to the city.

"Believe it or not, Winnipeg is the city that did a petition for me to come. Five thousand people asked me to come (to Winnipeg," he said.

The Dog Whisperer television show has been previously nominated for an Emmy Award.
