GE Appliances has recalled hundreds of thousands of high-efficiency clothes washers because they could pose a fire hazard.

The company said their Harmony Top-Loading Clothes Washers have the ability to overheat, if the main circuit board malfunctions.

The recall applies to washers sold in Canada from 2008 to 2011. About 455 units were sold in Canada, and around 220,000 were sold in the U.S.

Affected units sold in Canada have the model number WPGT9150.

There have been no reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the washers in Canada, Health Canada said. However, GE Appliances has received 71 reports of internal washer components burning or catching fire, including three reports of fires resulting in property damage.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
