A sold-out grey cup means economic benefits for Winnipeg. Teams and fans arrived earlier this week to get acclimatized to Winnipeg.

the city was recently voted one of the Top 20 tourist destinations in the world, and Mayor Brian Bowman says he thinks grey cup fans are beginning to realise why.

"it's been huge, an expected $88 million in economic benefit to the city, over 20,000 visitors to the community, I mean it's been great," said Bowman.

The Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Commission says it's seen a spike in sales this weekend due to the Grey Cup game.

The Liquor Store at River Avenue and Osborne Street is preparing for a 30 per cent spike in sales on Game Day Sunday.

Staff expect stores to be busy leading up to the start of the game at 3:00 p.m.

They say football is most commonly paired with beer and whiskey. Wine and local breweries are gaining popularity.

"It's the 103rd grey cup wines that we’ve introduced. We also have our local beers like Fort Garry, Half Pints and also Farmery," said MLCC spokesperson Jiten Mehta.

Staff say Crown Royal has been the most popular whiskey.
