A group of grandmothers is holding rallies in Winnipeg and across the country to encourage Canada’s parliament to pass a bill to help people in Africa with HIV.

According to the Grandmothers Advocacy Network (GRAN), more than 7.5 million people have no access to HIV and AIDS medicines.

The group calls itself a voice for grandmothers in Africa, who are caring for millions of AIDS-orphaned children.

Canada’s parliament passed a bill to allow the export of generic drugs to developing nations, but the group says no drugs have left.

The group wants a new bill to make it easier for those drugs to get to those in need.

Rallies are being held coast to coast. Winnipeg’s gathering starts at 5:30 p.m. at The Forks.
