A local group has filed a $400 million lawsuit against the Manitoba government, to stop the use of photo radar cameras in Manitoba.

The group calls itself "Stop the Flash" and filed a statement of claim in Court of Queen's Bench Thursday.

The suit filed is for $406 million and was filed on behalf of the members for the 'Road Safety Awareness Group'.

Nancy Thomas hopes the lawsuit will bring a permanent injunction of the use of photo radar in Manitoba.

"We're a non-profit association and we're looking to get conventional policing back on the streets and do away with photo radar. We believe it's causing huge safety risks," Thomas said.

The group also believes photo radar is a breach of privacy.

There are several defendants named in the lawsuit including; the province of Manitoba, the attorney general of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg.

The group is meeting this weekend to discuss which legal team will represent it.

Next week it will announce its next move.
