High winds have knocked out power and uprooted trees in many areas of Manitoba.

Environment Canada says Winnipeg can expect wind gusts reaching 80 km/h Monday.

In Brandon, gusts peaked at 97 km/h this morning.

Winnipeg saw natural debris littered across sidewalks and streets. The City of Winnipeg says it received 678 reports of fallen trees and branches.

The city has five aerial lifts and three chippers out trying to deal with the downed trees.

Manitoba Hydro crews have been responding to thousands of customers without power across the province.

Outages have been reported throughout western Manitoba, the Interlake region and Winnipeg.

Several traffic lights across the city have been knocked out but Hydro says most of the large-scale outages have been dealt with.

Manitoba Hydro is asking everyone to stay away from downed and arching power lines.
