The Winnipeg Jets have locked up another one of their young forwards with the National Hockey League regular season set to begin.
The Jets announced Tuesday they have signed Danish winger Nikolaj Ehlers to a seven-year contract extension worth an average value of $6 million per season beginning in 2018-2019.
Winnipeg drafted the 21-year-old ninth overall in 2014. Last season, Ehlers finished tied with Patrik Laine for third on the Jets in scoring with 64 points, behind only Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler.
Ehlers also played in all 82 games last year. He is entering his third season in the NHL.
The Jets open their 2017-2018 campaign Wednesday evening at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
