Manitoba’s chief medical examiner said “a thorough investigation is being conducted” into the deaths of Lisa Gibson and her two children.
Gibson’s children were rushed to hospital in critical condition on July 24 from their Westwood home in Winnipeg but died. Gibson’s body was pulled from the Red River days later.
“Once the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has gathered and assessed all relevant information, a decision will be made regarding the course of action that needs to be taken to prevent similar future deaths. As this process will take a few months, it is expected this decision will be made in late fall,” said the medical examiner’s office in a statement.
The investigation into the deaths is being conducted in accordance with The Fatality Inquiries Act.
Following the deaths of Gibson and her children, Winnipeg police announced on Tuesday that a support session will be held tonight, July 31, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kirkfield-Westwood Community Centre, 165 Sansome Avenue.
Members from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Mobile Crisis Unit, Klinic and Manitoba Family Services will be on hand to provide information about services available to people facing emotional difficulties.
The evening of Aug. 1, a public memorial is being held for Lisa Gibson and her children at 7:30 p.m. at The Forks. Organizers have asked people to bring a candle and a white flower to place in the Red River where Gibson's body was found.
