A new permanent exhibit featuring a rare pliosaur fossil is now open at the Manitoba Museum.

According to museum staff, the pliosaur was one of the largest marine reptiles from the dinosaur era. They say the Museum’s pliosaur would have been about 40 feet long as a full-grown adult.

The Manitoba Museum has two pliosaur skeletons in the new exhibit. Staff say the fossil is from a young reptile that lived in Manitoba 90 million years ago.

The other skeleton is a full-scale replica suspended from the ceiling, as if it was swimming in a prehistoric sea.
