RCMP Manitoba said they are investigating a body found in the area of Shoal River, about 595 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
Swan River RCMP said they were called after a resident found what he believed to be the remains of a body on the shoreline of Lake Winnipegosis.
Attending officers confirmed it was a body, and it was transported to Winnipeg for an autopsy and further examination.
"We are not in a position to confirm the identity of the remains at this time, pending further forensic examination and other investigative steps to ensure certainty," said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP.
Early Thursday afternoon, police tweeted that they are continuing to investigate.
