Siloam Mission was packed for a special Easter dinner on Good Friday. The homeless shelter prepared a meal for hundreds of Winnipeg's poor and homeless.

So many people came out that dinner had to be served in three separate sittings. The meal included turkey, ham, and mashed potatoes, followed by hot cross buns.

In the Christian faith, Easter is a time filled with hope. Siloam officials say the meal was also about celebrating hope that the lives of the less fortunate will improve.

"We are family here, and that's kind of what we created, a happy family setting," Theresa Saunders, Director of Patron Services, told CTV News. "We do special decorating to show our patrons that we celebrate who they are, and the courage it takes to be in the inner-city community."

Officials say more than 500 people came out to the dinner, which is sponsored by the Manitoba Real Estate Association.
