A 31-year-old woman is dead after a fatal crash near Birdtail Sioux First Nation on Tuesday.

Around 5:30 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 355 where they found two women ejected from a vehicle.

Police said it is unclear who was driving.

According to RCMP, speed and alcohol are considered to be contributing factors in the crash. Seatbelts were also not in use at the time of the collision, police said.

The 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant of the vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she is now in stable condition.

An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
