Two young children and an adult died in a fire in the God's Lake area Monday morning, said officials.

A three-year-old girl, a one-year-old boy and their great-grandfather died in the fire, said Peter Watt, chief of God's Lake Narrows First Nation.

Around 11 a.m. Monday, officers were called to a blaze at a home on the First Nation, said RCMP. The community is about 550 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

Peter Watt said members of the community used two water delivery trucks to try to put out the flames. He said the pumps on the trucks are not very strong and the fire spread quickly.

Watt said the First Nation does not have a fire truck.

The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating the blaze.
