Winnipeg police said Walter (Wally) Joseph Sanderson, 28, has been located and arrested.
Officers had previously asked for the public's help in locating Sanderson, wanted for assault and breach of probation. Justice officials said Sanderson had been released in error from jail.
Sources told CTV News the release was the result of a paperwork mix-up.
RCMP located Sanderson in a vehicle on Highway 221 near Rosser, northwest of Winnipeg on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m.
Police said he was arrested without incident and remains in custody.
