Environment Canada issued a series of tornado warnings Saturday afternoon as a storm tracking across southern Manitoba produced a number of funnel clouds.

Tornado warnings have ended for areas southeast of Winnipeg, including Steinbach, Niverville, Grunthal, St-Pierre-Jolys and St. Malo, and the RMs of Stuartburn, La Broquerie, St Adolphe and Ste Agathe.

On its website, Environment Canada said a funnel cloud was spotted near Ste. Agathe around 3:45 p.m. and it was tracking east southeast at 30km/h.

Residents in affected areas were urged to seek shelter immediately.

For a brief period of time Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the City of Winnipeg as well.

The warning in Winnipeg lasted 22 minutes and was issued because of a funnel cloud spotted near Oak Bluff.

Environment Canada said the southern part of the city was at risk of seeing a tornado as well as areas south and west of the city.

A heat warning remains in effect for Winnipeg but a thunderstorm watch in the city has ended.

Severe thunderstorm watches remain in effect for several other areas ins southern Manitoba.
