City hall has found its tree for its annual Christmas display.

A 42-foot blue Colorado spruce tree, donated by Charleswood resident Antony van Ginkel, was selected as city hall’s Christmas tree for 2017. The tree is scheduled to arrive at city hall on Sunday.

Ginkel said having his tree selected was his late wife’s wish.

“I’m happy to donate this tree in her honour and know she will be looking down and see it lit from above,” he said in a release.

Once the tree is put in place, a crew from the city’s Urban Forestry Branch will decorate the tree with over 9,000 multi-coloured LED lights.

The city said the official lighting of the tree will take place later this month.
