A Winnipeg city councillor is worried about the safety risks associated with Daylight Saving Time.

Matt Allard wants the city to review vehicle collision data from the mornings after the time change from as far back as necessary.

Allard said a 2014 study showed a 20 per cent increase in collisions on Manitoba roads during the days after Daylight Saving Time due to fatigued drivers. He said there is similar evidence elsewhere that shows an increase in fatal and serious crashes.

At best, he said there is conflicting reports to the benefits of setting the clocks back and forward. His motion to explore this points out that Saskatchewan does not participate in changing the clocks.
