A Winnipeg handi-transit company wants to provide limo service for people living with a disability.

Sunshine Transit Services is going before the Manitoba Taxicab Board seeking the special limo licence.

Owner Gary Jakeman said the limo service for people with disabilities is needed because no one else offers it in Winnipeg.

The city's two largest cab companies, Duffy’s and Unicity, oppose the idea. Unicity said limos are already taking business from taxis, stressing the market is over-saturated now.

Jakeman said the taxi cab board turned him down two years ago because it ruled he did not illustrate the need for the special limo.

Armed with a petition containing 400 signatures, Jakeman is confident he can sway the board this time around.
