The family of slain Candace Derksen is putting their experiences on display in a new art exhibit.

Suspended: it is about pursuit opened at the Frame Arts Warehouse Friday.

It features works of the Theotrinsic Art Group; which is made up of Derksen’s parents, Wilma and Cliff, and her sister, Odia Reimer.

Thirteen-year-old Derksen disappeared on her way home from school in November 1984. Six weeks later, her frozen body was found tied up with twine on the floor of a storage shed only 500 metres away from her family's East Kildonan home.

After going through nearly 4,000 pages of transcripts, Wilma wrote a book, This Mortal Coil, about what she calls her "pursuit of truth." Set in the courtroom, the book is about Mark Edward Grant; the man who will soon face a second trial for the young girl's death.

“I needed to understand it, and I needed to understand it so I could tell my family, that was my main purpose,” said Wilma.

The exhibit also showcases Cliff Derksen’s Reflections of the Soul; a work in which guests create a ceramic face and manipulate its expressions.

There are five pieces in the exhibit, including Odia Reimer’s the Hem of his Garment, focusing on her experience with infertility.

“My part of this exhibit or the show is particularly about my battle with infertility. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 17 years, and so just the process and some of the valleys and hills that we've gone through," said Reimer.

Suspended: it is about pursuit runs at the Frame Arts Warehouse until April 14th.
