New poll numbers show the federal Liberals leading in one Manitoba riding and gaining ground in another riding scheduled to hold byelections on Monday. The new figures from Forum Research, Inc. show the party widening their lead in the Brandon-Souris riding, while the party has moved up modestly in the riding of Provencher.

Brandon-Souris Liberal candidate Rolf Dinsdale increased his support from 44 per cent to 50 per cent, while Conservative candidate Larry McGuire stayed at 36 per cent.

Meanwhile, in the Provencher riding, Conservative candidate Ted Falk maintained a considerable lead over Liberal candidate Terry Hayward, with 48 per cent to Hayward’s 37 per cent. The gap, however, is narrower than last week, when Falk had 51 per cent of the vote and Hayward had 30 per cent.

The numbers don’t provide any guarantees as to who might win in Monday’s byelections, warned Forum president Lorne Bozinoff. “There's still time for the electorate to change their minds, and we know they can do that," he said in a news release.

The Forum poll also showed the Liberals leading in the Montreal riding of Bourassa (51 per cent) and in Toronto Centre (48 per cent).
