Environment Canada is warning of possible funnel clouds across parts of southwestern Manitoba Saturday.

Areas under the alert include Brandon, Killarney and Headingley.

An upper level low is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the province with the possibility of funnel cloud forming with some of the cells.

According to Environment Canada, these types of funnel clouds are formed by weak rotation under quickly growing clouds. They can also form with weak thunderstorms.

This does not usually pose a problem near the ground, but there is a chance that the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Rainfall alerts have been issued for the Swan River and Dauphin areas. Severe thunderstorm alerts have been issued for the Fisher River and Grand Rapids areas.

Winnipeg is not currently under a weather warning.
