History buffs are worried about the future of Winnipeg’s archives and their heritage home.

Renovations were being done on the exterior of the century old Carnegie Library on William Avenue. The upgrades included a plan to build a temperature controlled vault and expanded program area inside.

All that was put on hold when a 2013 rain storm caused a flood.

The city is also embroiled in a lawsuit over water damage caused by the storm.

Since then the archives have been temporarily relocated in three different spots, and heritage advocates want action.

"What's the plan, when will it reopen, will the renovations continue and there's no answer to that." historian Jim Blanchard said.

CTV News has been told a report is expected by the end of the year at city hall that will address costs, and whether or not the records should be housed in the historical building.
