Justice officials have announced an inquest into the death of Brian Sinclair will commence on Aug. 6.

Sinclair died in September 2008. He was in a wheelchair and died from a treatable bladder infection in the Health Sciences Centre.

Sinclair died without receiving treatment after waiting 34 hours in the ER.

On July 30, the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench released a decision upholding an earlier decision saying that Sinclair’s estate cannot sue Health Sciences Centre. The family’s lawyer said they plan to file another appeal.

An external review determined last year that charges should not be laid in the death of Sinclair. The inquest was put on hold while a police investigation was conducted.

After getting underway on Aug. 6, the inquest could last until early 2014.

The Sinclair family has previously said an inquest is not enough and called for an inquiry, which can assign blame and hold people accountable, rather than just making recommendations.
