Transport Canada has pulled Keystone Air’s air operator certificate.

A spokesperson said the suspension is based on safety concerns.

No one from Keystone Air was immediately available for comment on Tuesday morning.

Transport Canada also suspended Keystone Air’s air operator certificate on Feb. 5, 2004.

The certificate was reinstated on Feb. 23, 2004.

In September 2015, a Keystone crash in Thompson involved a twin-engine piston aircraft that was mistakenly refilled with jet-engine fuel. The crash sent eight people to hospital.

The airline was also involved in a 2012 crash in North Spirit Lake, Ont., that killed four people and was blamed partially on pilot inexperience.

Keystone Air was also grounded on June 14, 2002 after an incident involving a Piper Navajo Chieftain flying from Gunisao Lake, Man. to Winnipeg.

The decision to suspend the company’s air operator certificate at that time was based on a review following the incident.
